What milestones should a 3 month old be doing?

Answered by George Sutton

At around 3 months old, babies start to show signs of increased hand-eye coordination. I remember watching my little one as they began to reach for objects and take swipes at them, trying to grab hold of them. It was such a joy to see their little hands reaching out and exploring the world around them. They would often grasp toys and even shake them, discovering the cause-and-effect relationship of their actions.

Another milestone at this age is the baby’s newfound ability to bring their hands to their mouth. It seemed like my little one was constantly exploring their hands and fingers, fascinated by the sensations they could create. This hand-to-mouth exploration also serves as a way for babies to soothe themselves and satisfy their natural instinct to suck.

I also noticed that my baby became quite skilled at opening and closing their fists during this time. It was amazing to witness their growing dexterity as they could now manipulate objects with more control. They would often grab onto my fingers or anything within reach and hold on tightly, showing off their developing grip strength.

It’s important to note that while these milestones are generally observed around the 3-month mark, every baby is unique and may reach these milestones at slightly different times. It’s always best to consult with your pediatrician if you have any concerns about your baby’s development. it’s a thrilling time as you witness your little one’s increasing coordination and exploration of their hands and the world around them.
