Why does my Cavalier follow me everywhere?

Answered by Jimmy McBrayer

Well, let me tell you about my experience with my Cavalier and why she follows me everywhere. First of all, I have to say that Cavaliers are known for their loving and affectionate nature. They are often referred to as “velcro dogs” because they have a tendency to stick to their owners like glue. And let me tell you, it’s absolutely true!

Whenever I’m at home, whether I’m in the kitchen cooking, in the living room watching TV, or even in the bathroom taking a shower, my Cavalier is right there by my side. It’s like she has a built-in radar that detects my every move. At first, I found it a bit overwhelming, but then I realized that it’s just her way of showing how much she loves and adores me.

One of the reasons why Cavaliers, and dogs in general, follow their owners everywhere is because they have a strong bond with them. Dogs are pack animals by nature, and they see their owners as part of their pack. So, when they constantly follow us around, it’s their way of staying close and connected to their pack leader, which is us.

Another reason why my Cavalier follows me everywhere is because she knows that being near me means she’s more likely to get attention, affection, and maybe even some treats. Dogs are social creatures, and they thrive on interaction with their human companions. When they follow us around, they’re seeking that social interaction and companionship that they crave.

In addition to the social aspect, there’s also a biological reason why dogs follow us everywhere. When dogs interact with someone they like, the hormone oxytocin is released. Oxytocin is often referred to as the “love hormone” and makes you feel that warm glow when you’re around someone you like. So, when my Cavalier follows me around, it’s not just because she wants attention, but also because being near me releases oxytocin and makes her feel good.

Lastly, I think it’s important to mention that each dog is unique and may have its own reasons for following its owner everywhere. Some dogs may have separation anxiety and feel more secure when they’re close to their owner. Others may simply have a strong desire to be near their favorite human. In the case of my Cavalier, I believe it’s a combination of her loving nature, her need for social interaction, and her desire to be close to her pack leader.

If your Cavalier, or any dog for that matter, follows you everywhere, it’s most likely a sign that they love and adore you. It’s their way of showing their affection, seeking social interaction, and staying close to their pack leader. So, embrace their constant companionship and enjoy the unconditional love they have to offer.
